Fabrics and Techniques
*9 hours of class time
*Class size is limited to 7 students.

Difficulty Level: Intermediate
The first night of class is for demonstration and lecture. Armed with the
knowledge you get from the first night, you then choose your fabric and pattern to work from. These
classes are open to anyone, but we hope that you are comforatable sewing from patterns on your own
when you sign up because these classes will require homework in order to complete them by class end.

Knits
Knits are the future for their easier fit, comfort and ease
of sewing. In this class we will teach proper fabric selection for knit projects,
effective cutting techniques for knits and how to sew with only a choice of
straight and zig zag stitches. We will also teach you how to sew knits with the stretch stitches available
on most sewing machines using the specialized feet made to be used with the stitches. There will also be
a serger/overlock machine tutorial on the first day of class for those who would like to use one.

Knits II - Swimsuits
Learn how to handle power knits under
the presser foot. Get great resources for swimwear finding, trims and linings. In this class you will
learn how to make a full swimsuit without any special equipment other than your home sewing machine.
There will also be a demonstration on how to copy your favorite swimsuit. Swimsuits and foundation
garments are alot alike, so feel free to try some foundation pieces instead of a swimsuit.

Napped Fabrics
Fur coats (fake and real) and velvet cloaks, capelets and jackets are all the rage for fall and winter.
Napped and pile fabrics can be some of the most tricky and frustrating fabrics to work with. This class will take the voodoo
out of getting good results from pile fabrics.
You choose the pattern and the pile fabric after the first session of class.

Pants
Learn how to make a pair of pants to fit your waist and hips
and made to the length that works for you. Learn about personal body shape
and crotch space. Learn how to properly set a waistband
and sew a fly zipper and a mock fly zipper. The pattern and fabric you choose will be up to you.

The Corset
One of the most misunderstood sewing projects is the boned corset. It looks like
a very complicated item to sew while in reality it is a very straight forward and simple sew, if you
know a few professional techniques.
Getting a great fit is easy when you have so many seams to work with.
This class is about learning how to properly use boning while creating a corset that
fits like a glove.

Fine Fabrics and Bias Cut
Trying to get a good cut from fine fabrics can be quite frustrating. Learn industry techniques for laying out
and cutting out fine fabrics. Also learn the idea behind "cutting on the bias" and do's and don't for working with
the bias. Learn how to choose and use interfacing and what types of trims, notions and findings will work
on fine fabrics.
