Shauna Smith is a fashion industry veteran and entrepreneur whose formal education includes a degree in fashion design from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles. The rest of her professional experience has brought her face-to-face and hand-to fabric with nearly every phase of producing a sewn garment, from designing and patternmaking to production sewing and quality control... and everything in between.

Shauna started First Samples, Austin's original sewing lounge, in 2005 to fill a creative void in the community with a haven supporting current and aspiring sewers and designers. In addition to becoming the fashion sewing school of choice for hundreds of students locally, First Samples has gained national recognition in Time Magazine, on NBC's Today Show, and in Taunton Press' Sew Stylish blog. First Samples is excited to expand its business in November 2007 with Twilight Emporium, where Austin area fashion seamsters will be able to select from unique lines of fine apparel fabric and where the community can buy Austin area fashion seamsters style.
